A sterling silver hand-made necklace. This is a really beautiful, early and rare sterling silver hand-made necklace. This is an example of a fine silver chain where each link is hand made and hand assembled. The type of link here is known as either a diamond link or a kite link. The kites in this instance are likely cast and hand cleaned and then the round connecting links are hand soldered together to create the chain.
The chain is a little over twenty seven inches in length, and has a simple hook and eye style clasp. It has a clever depressed clip style closure that is as secure as it is simple to use. The chain will pass over most heads, so it will not even need to be used. It is always a sign of additional quality when a long chain has a clasp, as it is really superfluous. It is marked "925" on the clasp designating that it is sterling silver. The 925 stamp, which indicates that an item is made of sterling silver, has a history that goes back to the 13th century.
The necklace has been left exactly as we sourced it. It has not been cleaned and not every link is perfect. However, this all adds to the amazing character and personality that this chain exudes. Should the desire be to have it cleaned and straightened, this can be done. As much as it would be a shame, tastes dictates appearance.
The chain was made in America, Circa early 1900's.
